Comments
Comments: Started up Jewell for a southern presi traverse. Nothing for the first mile or so, then the monorail starts. It was stable today with no postholing and traction was good enough to bareboot. There was surprisingly less snow than expected here, but it fills in deeper as you approach treeline. Once out of the trees it shuts off abruptly. Went the standard route up Gulfside to Washington, then Crawford down over Monroe and Eisenhower. The auto road is open but the facilities are still closed, so don't count on refilling your water just yet. From treeline at Jewell to treeline on the other side of Eisenhower the snow is 90% gone except for some fields around the lakes and up to Monroe. Snow is still piled up to the roof of the hut. The col between Eisenhower and Pierce had a monorail in the tree covered sections but it wasn't too bad compared to previous years. The descent on Crawford had much more snow than Jewell did, but it's still hard packed and firm all the way down despite the warmth. Barebooted start to finish with no issues
