 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
The Cardigan Mtn. State Park access road is still gated; there is a small lot outside the gate. The road itself is free of snow and ice but needs some light tree cleanup before it can open. |

 | Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant |

|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
South Ridge has two small trees down below Rimrock. Drainages need cleaning. West Ridge was fine for the short times I was on it. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
I don't think I've ever seen so many dogs on the summit. All were good mannered and having their best day out. |
|
 | Bugs: |
A few black flies were out but they aren't bad here yet. They didn't have a chance anyway at the windy summit. |

What a day to be on Cardigan! Crystal clear skies and not a cloud anywhere to be seen. Just spectacular.
I don't often do West Ridge Trail because it can get crowded on nice days but I do like mixing it up with other trails and descending via the old fire warden's jeep road.
Basically, in the woods, all of these trails were wet and muddy from the recent rain. Out in the open, the ledges were mostly bone dry but there was also some running water here and there. The steep, rough section of South Ridge Trail took a little care due to slippery ledges.
Great to chat with Kevin, Cassandra, and her canine pal Radar on top. |
