Misty, mysterious day for a walk around Ammonoosuc Lake. The yellow trout lilies are in bloom up here, the first I've seen this season. I saw one red trillium in bloom and a bunch more that'll likely pop open in the next couple weeks. Hobblebush are starting to flower, and Canada mayflowers are leafing out. No signs of amphibian activity in the lake, but in the vernal pool just to its south along the Around-the-Lake trail, there was a significant amount of spawn (maybe newt or salamander). Some hatched tadpoles in one of the leach ponds at the start of the Stewardship Trail. Springtime changes! |
