 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trail up to Whaleback is in good condition, dry with a few blowdowns and yellow blazes. After Whaleback I lost count of the number of blowdowns, maybe 10 to 15. Small patches of snow, but not a problem. They should be gone by this weekend. |

 | Comments: |
We took the Old Osseo Trail over Whaleback all the way to the New Osseo Trail. We were uncomfortable with the first water crossing and the one on the Red Trail so we bushwhacked on the right bank of the river 0.9 miles to where the Yellow Trail crosses back. The rest of the trail is as good or better than any another trail in the Whites. One spot shortly after that crossing is a little confusing. The trail enters a wet muddy area on a hill side. The trail goes straight up and then to the right and crosses a small stream. Just follow the yellow blazes. There is a small view from the summit, but 2 view spots on herd paths to the left before the summit and 1 on the right after there summit. On the way back we just walked through the first crossing and used a large log to make the second one. We saw 1 pair of hikers all day. |
