Very quiet hike today, this is my first time in the 12 years I've been hiking in which I have not met a single person. Both trails are incredibly lightly used. There is still a lot of leaf litter from the fall that is obscuring rocks and roots making for some minor tripping hazards. Most of the trail is pretty dry, but there are several short sections where there is mud and pockets of standing water. Many of the rocks are wet and EXTREMELY slippery - USE CAUTION. Despite being caught in the thunderstorms today, the trail really didn't change too much. I'm not worried about the trail becoming very muddy with the rain from today or the likely rain tomorrow, though the rain will probably exacerbate the wet/slippery rocks problem.
Not the greatest day to hike today, but could have been much worse. It was pretty warm in the morning, but the rain moved in earlier than expected. Completed Carter Ledge and Middle Sister trails for my redlining goal. Thought about hitting Middle Sister Cutoff but decided not to due to potential rain. Carter Ledge was a lot steeper than I remembered it, though last time I did it was 2016. I would recommend making sure you've got a good day to do this trail, if it was slippery in mostly dry conditions, it will be brutal in rainy weather. And if you don't like spider webs, bring a stick! Since this is a lightly used loop, you will likely run into many webs crossing the trail, so if you don't want that all over your face, have a stick or pole at your ready. |
