Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: In the upper mile near the peak, there are several step over and unders, but much has been cleared. Only one blow down required my going off the trail to get around it. Much better than what I expected. So thanks to all who hiked before me and did the trail work!
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: Black flies hovered around my head, especially down low where there wasn't much of a breeze when starting out. I wore my head net on the return in the same area. The breeze kept them at bay in the higher elevations.

Comments
Comments: Weather conditions made the decision to hike today a tough one, with 40% rain and possible thunder showers. The hike started out very humid. Began to feel a delightful breeze as I reached MT Surprise, which continued to blow throughout the hike. The steep rock slabs were a bit sketchy and slick due to the rain and the trail had pools of water that were tough to avoid in spots in the upper section beyond Quimby's Pillow. I only saw one small patch of snow mixed in with small branches around a blow down. Nothing necessitated wearing spikes. As I approached the peak, it began to rain and thunder. I spent about 30 seconds on the very windy peak. Then I turned right around and headed back down. Overall, it was great to get another peak in for the grid, but the conditions made it out to be one of my not so favorite hikes.
