We drove up Bear Mountain Rd (Class 6 portion) to where the Elwell Trail crosses and parked at the solid/firm area in the big log landing just west of the junction. Bear Mountain Rd (the dirt section) has some big washouts but I've seen it worse. I don't think I'd take just any vehicle - you need a lotta clearance and good uphill traction - ideally a truck or jeep |

Terrific quick afternoon hike. Only about 17 minutes from car to summit. Absolutely beautiful woods - I love the gorgeous sidehill that curves around the mountain - one of my favorite places. Dubbed around the outlook and looked for the summit sign - didn't see it. |
