Had a nice hike up Eisenhower and Pierce for memorial day. Crawford path was a river and very muddy up to the ridge, and very wet across to Eisenhower. Water up to 4-6 inches. Miraculously my feet stayed dry. The final ascent from the ridge to Eisenhower was deep spring snow. Pretty heavy, very wet. Gaiters were nice to have for puddles, mud, and snow. I did put my micro-spikes on to descend Eisenhower, but you could get away without. Crystal clear day, surprisingly enough, could see for miles. Great views of Washington. From Pierce to the hut there were lots of blowdowns which provided good views South, but did provide obstacles over the trail. The hut was open! Lots of visitors taking a break outside in the nice sunny weather. When I got down to Crawford Notch there were tons of people out for Memorial day. Overall a good hike. |
