Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Most crossings are hoppable but fast-running. Poles are a must. We waded the final crossing before Lincoln Woods slightly upstream due to instability of the logs.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Lots of blowdowns, fairly recent in appearance, make for tough footing throughout the traverse. Standing water due to snowmelt and rain make progress slow. Some boards placed on the trail have rotted through.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Few dogs seen on the trails today. The ones who were there probably got muddy!
Bugs
Bugs: Not a single bug!

Comments
Comments: Shoulder season is upon us! Our Memorial Day Bond Traverse was successful but very slow going. As expected, the rain and late snow made for a long day of infinite obstacles. Luckily, the sun was out and aside from a passing storm, sightlines were clear and views from the peaks were stunning. This was a welcome reward since I lost count of the number of blowdowns, boggy pools of standing water and deep mud, narrow and sometimes unstable monorails with serious postholing to either side (and sometimes one or two in the middle), and slippery rocks we needed to hop. There was too little snow for snowshoes and no ice, so no micros are need but make sure your shoes have good tread. Poles were a must to navigate the deep puddles and fast streams. Plan for more time than usual due to these obstacles. Even Lincoln woods has spots of deep mud between the rail beams. But flowers are blooming and the scent of new leaves is heavenly. And what an astounding view from the ridge!
