Absolutely beautiful day for Chocorua! Trails were muddy but honestly not as bad as I’d have expected after all the snow / rain of the last weekend. Most mud was avoidable / minor. River crossings were all rock hoppable (got my feet wet a bit at one but I wasn’t trying very hard, I was hot and wearing trail runners). Some wet / slippery rocks especially on the last half mile of Champney Falls heading up and on the CF cutoff trail toward Middle Sister. Slabs and scrambles on the ridges over to the three sisters and around Chocorua were all dry. Black flies ate me for lunch while I ate my sandwich (the ciiircleee of lifeeee) but overall bugs were manageable when moving, not too too bad on the trail yet. I’m sure they’ll be worse in a week. |
