Comments
Comments: We opted to hike up Jewell trail to Gulfside down Caps over to Jefferson. Jewell trail was wet in spots however not as bad as I had anticipated. We hit some minor snow patches right before we came out of the tree line. Snow patches were short in distance and in some spots you could stay on the rocks to avoid the snow. Other areas you’d go in deep but not often. We took our time and enjoyed the sections with no snow! Some areas when you stepped in the snow it was water and slush underneath. We were glad to have worn our gortex waterproof boots.
Once at the summit of Jefferson we opted to head down Caps Ridge trail and take the road most of the way. Once on the road there is a trail on your left with a sign that takes you back to Jewell Trail and the Cog so you don’t have to take the road all the way. This option was much more enjoyable as the snow patches were very short lived on that side and easier than going back across Gulfside. Overall conditions were much better than I thought and we never put our spikes on.
