We waded across the brook on Passaconaway Cutoff; it was just above my ankles. Waterproof socks for the win! The typical muddy spots were muddy and we tromped right through. We saw 3 other people on the Kanc side of Passaconaway and they too seemed to be following LNT and not widening the trail. Yay!! |

 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Passaconaway Cutoff is in fabulous shape! There is a new-appearing obstructing blowdown just past the marshy spot on Oliverian Brook Trail. There isn’t really a good way around it and it is excessively limb-y. There is but one small duck under on Square Ledge Trail over to Square Ledge. There are a lot more problems on Square Ledge over to Walden Trail. Walden Trail is good except that sunny area is growing like gangbusters LOL! |

My pup had a good day except for the one dog that we met. Both dogs were offleash and I called mine back to me. She turned around and headed my way and the other dog jumped her. I was so mad. My dog was unhurt but rather than being apologetic the person with the other dog told me that my dog was barking too much. Seriously? Your dog jumped my dog and while you are lecturing me your dog is lunging at me and my dog, and my dog and I are standing off trail waiting for you to pass. Mean people stink. Those two minutes were not fun but the rest of the day was great! |

We had no bug issues until the last 0.25 miles before the car, when we got swarmed by mosquitoes. Ugh! |

 | Lost and Found: |
I packed out beer bottles that I found at the “camp” area on the brook, about 0.5 miles from the trailhead. I didn’t get them all because I am just one person and can only do so much. Gross. |

This is my favorite way to hike Passaconaway. I hadn’t been to Square Ledge in a while so we went there first. On our way back down I was brave and climbed up the slide to see the cool view of Hedgehog. And, I found one of the buckets at the logging camp! Other than that kerfuffle noted under “Dogs” we both had a fantastic day!! |
