Incredible day in beautiful Pittsburg to grab a few 200’s and a 500 on the NHH lists. Cohos trail was wet until starting the whack to PPP and NP.
Some puds along the well cut swath to West Prospect with one really steep section by a hunters stand, no problems descending or ascending it. More puds along the well cut swath to Mont Prospect (my goodness, the view from that peak overlooking Chartiersville and Megantic is breathtaking). Toughest stretch along that swath was after the 4th CT Lake trail junction. After checking out the headwaters for the CT River via the 4th CT Lake Trail (300 yards of wet, muddy, but well placed foot bridges with chicken wire on them for support), the .5 mile return to Customs was perhaps the slickest part of this entire hike/whack.
Swath to Des Linges was more overgrown than the swath from West Prospect, but is short. Was approached by customs on return, asked for ID, very pleasant encounter, said they don’t see many people heading up the Des Linges way… LOL for good reason!
After Des Linges, drove to the boat launch area for the Third CT Lake and whacked to summit. Took a well cut and and easy going swath just off the summit back north to the area where it takes a funky rectangular shape and started bushwhack descent. |
