Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Left a bike at Lafayette Place. Then parked at the lot for Whitehouse Trail. At the end of the hike, I used the bike to get back to my car. The bike saved me about 3 miles of monotonous bike path walking.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: There are several water crossings on Flume Slide Trail. I took my boots off and waded at the first crossing of Flume Brook (about two miles up from the Liberty Springs junction). The rest of the crossings were easier. On the other end of the hike, Falling Waters Trail crosses Dry Brook multiple times. The water was high, but I managed to cross without getting too wet.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Several blowdowns on Franconia Ridge Trail, especially between Liberty and Little Haystack. It looks like someone took care of some small blowdowns recently (probably a hiker with a saw). The bigger blowdowns will need to be cleared before the northbound thru-hiker wave in August.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: None. Too cold today.

Comments
Comments: The ledges on Flume Slide Trail were very wet and slick. They were manageable, but it would have been smarter to wait for a dry spell. The view from Mt. Flume made it all worth while.

The walk from Flume to Little Haystack was the highlight of the hike. Plenty of views from Flume, Liberty and Little Haystack. It seems the spring wildflowers are all done, but Little Haystack is covered in Diapensia.

The descent down Falling Waters Trail was treacherous in places. Of course, descending Flume Slide Trail would have been worse, so descending Falling Waters was the right call. And Cloudland Falls is absolutely gorgeous right now.
