Date of Hike: Monday, June 2, 2025
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Dirt parking area under power lines about 1/10 of a mile up Bangor Street from the trailhead. Room for about 10 cars. There were 8 there (including the 6 from our group) when we left at 5pm; only 2 others there when we arrived at 7:30
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Significant
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: No stream crossings (all the water you’ll find is running down the trail or mixed in with the copious mud)
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: We counted a total of 10 large blowdowns above the ledges (most within a 1/2 mile of the summit). Someone did trim these up so you don’t puncture a thigh going over,
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: None seen, but this is a pretty dog-friendly trail.
Bugs
Bugs: Oh boy, were there bugs! None really on the way up, but starting back down they were dive bombing us most of the way…I think I inhaled a few gnats. Put on my head net for the first time this season. Bug spray definitely recommended.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: N/A

Comments
Comments: Another perfect weekday in the Whites (apologies to all you Saturday hikers who haven’t seen the sun or a dry trail since March!) Weekend rain made for a very muddy trail…nothing that went over my hiking boots, but this would have been miserable if I’d worn trail runners. Ledges were mostly dry; just a few slippery spots that will likely be all dry by Tuesday. Thanks to whomever limbed up the blowdowns. Someone will need a chainsaw to get the big ones out of the way, but this section of the CM trail was in pretty good shape—nothing we couldn’t go over/under/around.
Saw more 4K mountains than hikers today…four others (hikers, that is) passed us on trail.
