E. Inlet Road is closed 2 miles in from Rt. 3. The bridge at Wizard Camp, 4 more miles from the closure, is gone. All that remains is an I Beam currently going across most of the brook. Many blowdowns and several washouts (especially around culverts) between mile 2 and mile 9. |

With E. Inlet Road being closed indefinitely, I was not sure I’d ever get D’Urban/SPP unless from the Canadian side. From the current end of road at the 2 mile mark, just getting to the start of the D’Urban whack is 11 miles on forest roads and those roads have their own ups and downs for a mountain bike to handle.
On a whim, I called a local outfitter who rents E-Bikes and learned that while ATV’s are not permissible on these roads, E-Bikes are. So I took a chance to see if the brook at Wizard Camp could be safely crossed and had a contingency plan if not. The I Beam came in handy and is best tackled with two or more people to assure the bike doesn’t take an unnecessary dip. Removing the battery from the bike helped, as they are quite heavy.
After successfully crossing the brook, it was relatively clear sailing to BP with the aforementioned obstacles. The one way trip from the 2 mile mark to BP parking lot took 1.5 hours.
The swath up to D’Urban was slick and overgrown until the summit. Utilizing SF to bypass a sub peak was a huge help. Used SF and swath down, choosing to stay on SF because of all the recent rains and concerns the swath would be impassable just west of the pond. This proved a good call, but SF in this section is easy to loose at times as it has many blowdowns and is lightly travelled.
After the col, SF was amazing. Well marked and maintained , soft footbed, and the switchbacks up SPP were a welcome bonus. The swath down to the start of the whack back to the pond was excellent and allowed for quick travel.
I opted to grab Kent on the way out, utilizing a half mile or so of a forest road spur to shorten the whack a bit.
