Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Water crossing was too high for rock hopping so I waded through in my trail runners. Rocks are very slippery in the stream bed!
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail is in great shape (thanks to the trail adopter) other than a massive beech tree blowdown that's been cut but will require a massive effort to remove and is still a challenge climbing over. On the Beaver Brook Trail above the junction with the Benton Trail I removed a half dozen small to medium blowdowns. It's clear sailing now.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: No pups today but definitely dog friendly.
Bugs
Bugs: Awful! Bug dope and a head net is ESSENTIAL!
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Found and removed a pack of 4 AA batteries.

Comments
Comments: Obviously the trail adopter has done some work there, thank you! There's one massive beech tree blowdown about a quarter mile above the water crossing that's going to take a lot of effort to remove (and a bit to climb over) but otherwise the trail is in good condition and a nice trail to the Moose. Above treeline there was a nice cooling breeze helped revive me on the way down on the first hot and humid day. Bugs were awful and a head net was pretty much a necessity! The water crossing was too high for rock hopping so I waded through in my Trail runners which felt great in the heat! The rocks in the stream bed are really slick! The lower section of the Tunnel Brook Trail is pretty wet and muddy but lots of Eastern (?) Swallowtail butterflies made it pretty to walk through!
