Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: I got my feet wet at all 3 crossings. Probably possible to stay dry if you prefer leaping onto logs/wet rocks, which I feel is less safe but go for it.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A 10"er duck under about 100yds before Black Pond...then the assorted step over/arounds the rest of the way but nothing major.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: It is a long day but a good hike for a fit dog. See Bear stuff in Comments.
Bugs
Bugs: Yes, there were bugs. Mostly 'Skeeters, especially bad in the first few miles along the LW trail and around Black Pond.
Lost and Found

Comments
Comments: Approached by a Ranger in the lot who told me they have been having problems with a large aggressive bear. Not at all afraid of humans, and a few hikers had thrown their packs which the bear grabbed. At a campground a caretaker had confronted the bear with an air horn to no effect. The rangers suggested not putting car keys in the pack, and not leaving my pack at the base of the Brutus B'whack as many people do. Said they thought the bear had been as far as Liberty Springs and Bondcliff Trail. We had an uneventful hike, but I probably would have left my pooch home had I known.

Bugs were pretty bad up to Black Pond...I spritzed the bug dope, probably should have splooshed and brought it with me to re-apply.

Got ankle deep at the three crossings but nothing scary.

Met Mark aka Gandalf working on his over 65 grid and over 70 48. Chatted for a bit, hope I'm crushing it like he was at 70!
