Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All rock hoppable
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Blowdowns have been mostly cleared from Walden and Rollins. Kate Sleeper and downes Brook are both a mess. In addition to blowdowns, Downes Brook has a lot more washouts and places where the Brook jumped bank entirely into the trail than I remember.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Would be great for pups with endurance, footing is soft and lots of water available
Bugs
Bugs: Mosquitos and deer flies were awful at the trailhead and down low - keep in mind if you plan to camp near Oliverian or Downes

Comments
Comments: Snuck this one in before the afternoon deluge. Really lovely loop through Sandwich wilderness that offers a great less-traveled alternative to the classic Blueberry-Dicey's loop. 15ish miles total. Didn't see a single human.

Parked at Oliverian, as noted the bugs were awful at the car. Most trails were smooth sailing until Kate Sleeper and Downes Brook. Navigating on both could be difficult if you aren't paying attention, due to the blowdowns and washouts obscuring the trail in spots. I had no issue, having been on these trails many times. Oliverian Brook and Downes Brook are both gorgeous, with many cascades and pools. Downes trail does cross the Brook many times, so keep this in mind if water is running high. I chose to run the Kanc back to Oliverian from the UNH/Downes trailhead, but you can also take xc ski trails (old logging railroad bed).
