Comments
Comments: Back in the area for a bit, we took a rekky walk on a couple of sections of Elwell Trail that we had not used since we cleaned/brushed them last fall. Unfortunately, they do need some attention now -- a few sections are becoming quite brushy and with summer approaching, might grow in pretty quickly. Specifically, small shrubs and raspberry canes on the powerline cut are encroaching on the footbed, as are beech saplings and more raspberry canes on the section between the powerline cut and just past the intersection with the Welton Falls Trail (South) junction. After that, where the trail enters the mature woods, it's in decent shape, all the way to the chimney, which was our turnaround point. Any time the trail is in the beech hardwoods, blazes are a bit faded -- we last touched them up a bit over a year ago. Powerline cut range poles could use a touch-up, too.

A nice walk, and nice to re-visit this part of trail that we've watched come back over the past few years after being nearly obliterated by logging almost a decade ago. The bunchberry carpets on the trail on either end of the powerline cut are stunning, in particular the western end.
