Comments
Comments: Lovely day with no bugs, decent trail conditions and friendly people to chat with. No view at Willey (socked in), but some nice views on Avalon and when heading down Field toward Willey. There’s plenty of mud and a bit of water on the trails but you can rock hop all of it. You probably don’t even need Gortex boots. Piece of advice - this is a moderate intensity hike for bagging three NH 4000 footers, but that depends a bit on your route. The Avalon trail after the fork with the A-Z up to field is extremely steep (1000’ per mile). If conditions are wet it is much better to go up this section than down it, and the A-Z trail is much, much easier in either direction if you’re willing to sacrifice Mt. Avalon.
