 | Comments: |
The hiking is easy from the trailhead to the wilderness boundary with several small water crossings and some mud in places.
After the wilderness sign, the trail ascends the valley with some rocky sections. Some of these rocks have a coating of moss with damp surfaces making them a potential slip hazard.
The trail heads steeply out of the valley with some rock stairs that help to control erosion and improve the footing. Thereafter the path ascends moderately to the junction with Scaur Ridge Trail.
There is an easy stretch on a ridge before the final steep climb up the cone of North Tripyramid over some steep rock slabs. The trail will test your agility/flexibility. There are side trails in the adjacent woods to avoid the steepest rock surfaces that are slippery when wet.
The trail between North Peak and Middle Peak is fairly easy.
Lots of Lady's Slipper near the beginning of Pine Bend Brook Trail. Lots of Bluebead Lilies, Bunchberries, and Starflowers at higher elevation. The Painted Trillium and Hobblebuah blooms are on there way out.
Met many hikers out today. Most were New Englanders except an AMC Pinkham Notch employee from Ithaca NY.
Under mostly gray skies, there were some views of the nearby mountains. The Presidential Range was in clouds. |
