Comments
Comments: KRT going up and over Cannon is in good condition other than steep AF with chronic significant erosion and large boulders angled every which way. Going over the Cannonballs was a slog as usual with it's seemingly unending PUDs mud and multiple blowdowns. From the Kinsmans 4 corners the KRT is in good condition with no significant issues. The Mt Kinsman Trail is also in good shape with some nice wildflowers blooming. Just beyond the Sugar Shack at the fork in the trail there is no sign indicating which way to go so I went to the left to the old trailhead which is closed. The right fork presumably hooks up with the new (fee charged) trailhead. We stopped to see the new trailhead 0.2 miles north of the old one. It's literally right at the Franconia town line sign down a very narrow dirt road to a gravel and pea stone parking lot for maybe 20 cars. There's string laid out seemingly for the parking spots so maybe it'll be marked in some way soon? There's a kiosk and pay box for the parking fee and I understand it's $10 for NH cars and $20 for out of state.
