Comments
Comments: Most of the distance up to flat rock on the Garfield Trail was dry surface with an easy grade. Above flat rock to the Garfield Ridge Trail is a rockier surface (from erosion over the years) with more wet spots and with somewhat steeper grades. The Garfield Ridge Trail to the summit is the steepest section but was not difficult as the surfaces were dry.
There are excellent views from the summit especially of the peaks that surround the western section of the Pemigewasset Wilderness and Owl's Head. It was clear enough to see the Sandwich range and the Presidential Range.
Lots of hikers on the trail including the USFS volunteer and the Garfield campsite caretaker. Didn't see any AT thru hikers or section hikers. There was a young multi-day Pemi Loop hiker. I descended with a couple from CT.
