 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
There was ample room at the decent-size lot at both Gale River and Haystack Rd at 7am, but this was mid-week. |

 | Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |

 | Recommended Equipment: |

|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
I was concerned about the Little River crossing on the North Twin Trail, after some apparent downpours in the drainage area the afternoon before, as seen on radar. However, the water flow still was low enough to enable careful rock-hopping, right at the trail. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trails all fairly good. There is one blowdown I recall, right at head height (mine!), just past the low point on the North Twin spur headed south. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Saw a couple with a pair of young trail runners, just after we started. Then there were a couple of others along the way, enjoying it. All were well-behaved. |
|
 | Bugs: |
Some black flies, and except for a few bites I wouldn't say they were "all over us." The nice breeze at the Twin peaks helped. |

 | Comments: |
As the weather experts predicted, the day started out warm and humid, but got sunnier and less humid as the morning progressed. The breeze atop South Twin was quite nice. Just as the weather reports show temperature and "feels like" temperature, trail signs going into late afternoon hike segments ought to give miles plus "feels like" miles! The lowest mile or more of the Gale River trail is about as easy as hiking gets, but goes on forever! Still we made it down from the hut in 2:40, not bad for our aging OTHH group. |
