Light mosquito pressure in the first mile before the climbing. After five peaceful minutes on the view ledge the black flies appeared in force and chased us off the summit! Never felt need for nets or spray today |

Fine hike up Owlshead this morning for James’ 47/52. Some mud down low but nothing bad. Last .9 miles climbs 1400’ but there’s no scrambles on this route, just a nice , steep climb through a fine hardwood forest.view ledge is a minute south of summit. Only other summits visible today were adjacent Martha and Chocorua/Sisters, which was odd! Cloud ceiling high enough to allow nice views of surrounding valley/hills, however. |
