My dog loves Owl's Head, we take the bushwhack up instead of the slide every time to avoid any issues. See comments about bear. |

Pretty bad near Black Pond and on summit. Otherwise not too annoying as long as you were moving. |

 | Comments: |
Great day to get Owl's Head for summer/June. My dog and I were stopped by the ranger in the morning @ Lincoln Woods and asked about our hiking plans. Apparently, there is a very fearless bear near the slide/summit area. A few days ago two hikers that were camping out encountered the bear, and it was not deterred by loud noises. Hikers had to use rocks and sticks to get the bear to leave them alone. Ranger suggested keeping my dog on a leash near the summit (which we did) and not dropping packs at the bottom of the slide/bushwhack like some hikers do. No one I spoke to throughout the day interacted with the bear, but it's good to keep an eye and ear out and be bear aware! A fed bear is a dead bear, so let's all do our part. |
