Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Sunday Mountain, NH
Trails
Trails: Cross Rivendell Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Friday, July 4, 2025
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: We parked near the pull off at the end of Baker Road in Orford across from the private driveway. Normally, there's room there for 10 (more?) vehicles if everyone takes up a single space -- that was not happening today, though. Lot was "full" when we got there late morning; upon return, the first group had left and been replaced by a new crew. VERY busy day on Mt. Cube.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Pet opossums -- for any ticks.
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: There are several small stream crossings on this route but none were an issue. Caution needed on stepping stones as they are mossy and slippery.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails are in fine shape. Note, though, that the Sunday Mountain summit spur trail sign is missing.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: A few eye flies...a couple of ticks, but nothing like what the previous poster experienced. We attribute that to our posse of opossums we had with us -- ticks are no match for them.

Comments
Comments: A recent conditions report for this route reminded us that we hadn't been this way for ages -- since much of that trail had been logged, and was a bit of a mess. Years later, the logged section is growing in nicely, and there's an actual corridor instead of a maze of slash and raspberry canes. What a lovely difference.

As noted in the section on parking, that lot serves for the CRT up Mt. Cube, as well as the section we took. While that parking lot was busy, we saw no one all day heading to Sunday Mountain.

A nice breeze most of the day keep some bugs away.

A lovely, quiet Fourth of July, Far from the Madding Crowd.
