Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Zealand Mountain, NH
Trails
Trails: Zealand Trail, Twinway, Zealand Spur
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Wednesday, July 9, 2025
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: About 6 cars in main lot at 8am (mostly overnighters). Lot was 2/3 full at 4pm with lots of groups headed to the hut. Noticed that the overflow lot now has a separate pay kiosk, and no parking g allowed in side of road.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Water levels very low, Whitewall Brook easy to hop over on those couple of crossings without a bridge.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail is in great shape. Only (minor) issue: two large trees right next to each other across the trail between Zeacliff and Zealand pond spur. I was able to get my boot up on one and then hop over both. Bog bridges were in great shape. Did notice that the iconic Zealand sign was a bit wobbly when I touched it. Might need to get resecured sometime soon.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: One 5-rung ladder near the final section of Zealand ridge that dogs might need help with. Otherwise good trail for dogs.
Bugs
Bugs: One until the final 2 miles out to the parking lot…then I had a couple of mosquito hiking buddies.

Comments
Comments: If you want to meet and chat with AT thru-hikers, this is the trail to do it for the next month. Aside from us, we met only one other day hiker on the trail…but met 8 folks hiking the AT and they were all super nice.
