In attempt to avoid the first round of thunderstorms that ended going just north of the Ossipee range tried to make the Mt. Roberts hike a bit more interesting: Big loop up Roberts, over to Faraway, down to the viewpoint along Lower Bridle Path and then back to the car. Ended up being just over 10 miles and 1900 ft elevation gain- most of the gain was obviously up Roberts. Roberts trail was in good shape, very dry. Nice views back to Winnipesaukee. Continuing along almost exclusively double tracks from there with lot of long grass. Some moose prints on the approach to Faraway but no moose sightings. Some small spots of mud here and there at the higher elevations but nothing bad. Switchbacks down took a while but were nice and easy and still dry and all double tracks. Didn't see a single other person for probably the last 8 miles of the hike. |
