Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There are a series of drainages, over the first half mile, that look fabulous. There are no obstructing blowdowns on this route.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Lots of scrambles and mud - my dog lives for this kind of thing. A ginormous number of people on the Rim Trail, not so much. LOL.

Comments
Comments: The last time I hiked the Kinsman Ridge Trail (KRT) without snow from the tram lot to Cannon was 9/25/22. I remember it being eroded in places and with a bit of mud above the viewpoint. Today I hiked that route and was stunned. The erosion is a near-continuous vertical sand chute, extending from the first switchback to the first little water crossing. Oh. My. Stars. The drainages are perfectly maintained but it does not seem that that is sorting out the problem. Above there, in the ledgy section, there is a well beaten bypass path in the woods on one side. Above there, where water is running straight down the rocky trail, there are well beaten bypass paths on both sides of the trail. I didn’t think that it could get worse but then I got to the main view spur; after there is always a bit of mud. Well, it’s a swamp and there are bypasses to the bypasses to the bypasses extending many many yards out from the trail in multiple locations. It was hard to see the KRT in such rough shape.

I hiked this today to spare myself from portaging my pup up and down the Hi Cannon ladder; I think that would have been a better choice. The eroded sand chute was super tricky to descend.
