Comments
Comments: I dropped a bike at the Cherry Mountain TH on Cherry Mountain Rd then drove to the Owl’s Head TH. The lower end of the Owl’s Head trail was wet but there were no puddles or mud to avoid, just some slippery roots and rocks. It was also pretty flat through this section. Then the steeps hit. There is 2,000’ of elevation on this trail and it’s in the upper 2/3. There are one or two switchbacks to catch your breath. Decent views from the top. Martha’s Mile was flatter and fern-ier (new word) than I expected. I didn’t think that there was much to see from Mt Martha. I went down the Cherry Mountain trail to the Rt 115 TH (across from the Slide Brook TH), then back up (1.7 miles each way w/1,700’ elevation). This trail was much easier to climb than the Owl’s Head trail. Back on top, I went down the other half of the Cherry Mountain trail to its TH on Cherry Mountain Rd. This was a gentle descent through ferns on a nice path; very easy going. The bike ride to close out the day was 4.6 miles, mostly downhill.
