 | Water Crossing Notes: |
I was able to rock hop the numerous, wide crossings of Sabbaday Brook trail. The kids could not and had to walk through the water several times, which was not very deep or swift. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Someone cleaned up most of the blowdown mess on the Sabbaday steeps. Looks like it was a real mess up there-thank you! Unmitigated erosion on Pine Bend, per usual! |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Tough, steep scrambling but okay for agile mountain dogs! Lots of water down low |
|
 | Bugs: |
Minimalé mosquitoes and deer flies-never an issue |
|
 | Lost and Found: |
Packed out a knife on Middle summit! Email me description and will get it returned! |

Lovely late-start loop into the “inner sanctum” of the sandwich wilderness. Ran into three teenage boys on North Summit who looked a bit shell shocked. Confirmed they had come up the North Slide and didn’t know how gnarly it was going to be. It was one of their member’s first hike ever:) They asked if there was an easier way down other than South Slide so I steered them towards Scaur Ridge Trail and they seemed very relieved! Descent down upper Sabbaday was exciting as always! Once down the steeps it is such a beautiful and remote walk along the brook-always a pleasure! Just before the trailhead I used the old “please help me avoid walking this dangerous road with my tired children at dusk” routine and a very friendly old couple visiting from LA drove us 1.1 miles back to our truck-SCORE!!! |
