Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Mt. Osceola, East Osceola, NH
Trails
Trails: Greeley Ponds Trail, Mt. Osceola Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, July 26, 2025
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Greeley Ponds Trailhead was busier than expected, even for a Saturday in July. By 8am there were 10 cars squeezed into the lot, and one car was attempting to park on the shoulder of the Kanc--which I would not recommend.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Very easy rock hop across south fork of Hancock.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Two larger blowdowns on Mt Osceola trail up to E. Osceola. They were trimmed, but you have to go low to get under them. Otherwise, trail in great shape.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw a few dogs between East Osceola and Osceola. The chimney is the trickiest part, but the bypass (to the right of the chimney heading east) is doable for athletic dogs.
Bugs
Bugs: Saw lots of (harmless) hover flies along the trail. They look a bit like bees, but don't sting and are cool to watch.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: N/A

Comments
Comments: The Greeley Ponds route was definitely less traveled than the Tripoli Road route - on a Saturday in July, the summit of Osceola at lunchtime looked a little like Central Park during a free concert. The usually spectacular views were lessened a bit by haze from the Canadian wildfires.

A note on water sources - only place I saw to filter water was within a quarter mile of the trail head at the south fork brook. On hot and humid days, plan to bring more than 2 liters to stay well-hydrated.
