Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Wowza, Success Pond Road got some major attention and is a joy to drive! It looks not only to have been regraded but also maybe widened. Amazing!
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Significant
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: N/A
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There are two easy stepover blowdowns on the Success Trail. The Mahoosuc Trail is clear of obstructions. Some of the bog bridges are teeter totters so if you are hiking with multiple people take care to only have one person (or dog) on the bog bridges at a time. Today I learned that dogs don’t like teeter totters.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: This is a great route for dogs noting there is one significant scramble on the Mahoosuc Trail, below the Success summit.
Bugs
Bugs: Nope!
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: There is a green gator that was soaked and laying in the trail. I hung it on a tree to dry (it was too wet to pack out).

Comments
Comments: This is a terrific hike on what is now a terrific access road! We saw two hikers as well as an AMC Pro Crew headed up to work on the MT - thank you! I passed along my concern, to them, about a trailside campsite that had a fire ring made out of artifacts; they told me that that is not new. So sad. This is not how we are to be treating artifacts. I only noticed the fire ring, today, because that spot had two bucket artifacts hanging from a tree so of course I had to get a closer look at those!
