Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The main water crossing on Bunnell Notch Trail was an easy rock hop. The lowest water crossing on the Unknown Pond Trail was running surprisingly high (given how dry things are) and was a head scratcher to cross with dry shoes.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There are easy stepovers along this entire route, with one large duck under on Kilkenny Ridge Trail that has a giant herd path around it. None of the aforementioned seem new. Thank you to whomever was out with a saw between Cabot and the Bulge, and both a saw and an ax between the Bulge and the pond. Wowza. But wait, there’s more. In the first mile of the Unknown Pond Trail some master craftsmen / women have put in new stone stairs, multiple new stone drainages and lots of stepping stones. It looks amazing!
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: My pupper had herself a day. There are lots of spots to hop into the water along this route, which is great.
Bugs
Bugs: The muddy spots on the upper part of Unknown Pond Trail have a lot of mosquitoes. I did not escape unscathed.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: One Ritz cracker sandwich sitting on a log. I kid you not. I took a photo of it and I am sure that I did not hallucinate this. I also found a really nice carabiner by the cabin. I left the crackers but packed out the carabiner. Message me at my trailname at gmail if it is yours!

Comments
Comments: We hiked clockwise (Cabot, then the Bulge, then the Horn). I was bummed that the cabin no longer has the notebook log - that was always a lot of fun. We saw 4 people total all day. The wildfire smoke restricted the already restricted views on this route. Despite that, it was a nice hike!
