 | Dog-Related Notes: |
We had a dog with us who went on leash in the alpine zone, met another dog coming up the cog. |
|
 | Bugs: |
Just a few as we got near the bottom of the Cog |
|
 | Lost and Found: |
Found a pair of eyeglasses on the Cog path and left them on the hiker parking kiosk at the bottom and posted a note on White Mt Lost and Found FB site. Also found a full plastic bottle of water that we picked up as litter that came in handy to wash off a wound when someone slipped on the cog and for extra water for the dog |

 | Comments: |
My first time down the cog path and found it very challenging - 3 in our group fell because of the loose scree. Others who have done it before said it was the most challenging they had seen. I expect it was because conditions are very dry. I have found when ascending a steep slide that it's easier after some rain - grippier, rocks held in place. I'm going to put some thought into finding a way to clean up the debris that litters the cog path mostly from the cog - there is a lot of scrap metal - rebar, pins, ax head and long heavy lengths of rail as well as timbers and timber bits. If every hiker brought down one little bit and left it at the bottom (in a dedicated receptacle) we could make a difference and it would improve the visual from the train and be safer for the hikers and better for the environment. |
