Lots of space available.
Note that on Wednesday NH DOT had closed Mt Clinton road from Edmuds Path trailhead towards Crawford. It appeared they may have been patching road.
Audi owners from NY felt they needed a detective's parking spot in front of trailhead path. Guys, really? |

Edmunds always provides a great hike, save for all the trail erosion.
Thankfull that the Weather held up - NOAA had predicted 30% chance of isolated showers in morning and then chance isolated showers and t-storms after 2pm. We hustled off summit to treeline to avoid potential t-storms and walking on wet rocks. Wasn't necessary, but at least while we were in alpine area we saw low clouds part to reveal nearby ridges and summits through the wildfire smoke haze.
Noted that Ike's large summit cairn is still leveled, after 2 years or so ago someone redistributed its rock to discourage yellow jackets from nesting there.
Lots of ANG heliocopter traffic overhead and nearby between Blackhawk and Chinook models. Training going on statewise and one medical rescue on Jefferson's Castle trail that day. See https://nhfishgame.com/2025/08/07/injured-hiker-rescued-from-castle-trail/
Upon our descent from Ike's cap, one of my friends re-discovered a patch of Alpine Blook Lichen on a rock. Yay! Of course there is plenty of Worm, Map, Target and at least 2 species of Orange/grey lichens in evidence. Saw Three-leafed Rattlesnake Root, Cutler's Goldenrod and just below in woods, Large leaved Goldenrod all blooming. Diapensia long past blooming - probably in early/mid-June like Alpine Garden.
We had fun and a great day of hiking to and on Ike's bald summit. Doesn't get any better! |
