We did a quick ascent of Orange Mountain to see how much brushing was left on the Skyland Trail, after last week's brushing from the east almost got us to Orange Mountain before our turnaround time.
Lovely, almost fall-like conditions this morning at 6:00.
Unfortunately, the area is in a bit of a drought, with quite a few stressed trees dropping leaves, especially on lower Vistamont. Some of the hobblebush is self-brushing, because it's dried to a crisp.
Sad to see the continuing creep and erosion on Holt Trail for the final portion heading up from the Croo Bridge to Grand Junction -- in one case, the rock steps are marooned between two fine herd paths. (Oh, well...)
Vistamont Trail still has its issues with erosion, BUT appears to have been thoroughly brushed in the past day; thank you! In addition, several small blowdowns have removed on this trail, and where the one massive one remains, a nice relo has been cut and flagged around that. It's a nice change!
Skyland Trail heading east does need a bit of brushing -- we'll get this soon -- but is otherwise in nice shape, all the way to where we finished brushing and re-blazing last week. |
