Comments
Comments: After lunchtime Charlie and I decided to hike Bald Mt. and Artist Bluff. Plenty of parking in the Peabody Lodge north lot at the west trailhead of the loop. There are signs with basic information. Last I knew the trail was Veterans Trail but there never was a sign for the trail and the signs just point out Bald Mt. and Artist Bluff but I am going to stick with Veterans Trail. These peaks are great and are good miniatures of 4k mountains...they have big views, steep ledges, roots and rocks! Big bang for your moderate effort. Only a couple people on Bald Mt. and we could see the roof of our house. On way to Artist Bluff we stopped by the actual highpoint the mountain named in honor of its big ledge. Artist Bluff is ranked 327th on the NHH500 list and its highpoint is just north, off the trail--we were stung by ground bees on the east side of the bump in the woods as we headed to the highpoint. Yikes both of us stung badly twice. Viewpoints on the ridge are getting too obstructed, a little tree cutting is needed. On top of Artist Bluff ledge there were dozens of people. I volunteered and took the photo of a nice family with their camera. A the bottom of the trail we took a right on the Loop Trail back to the west edge parking area. It is in the woods and very rooty and rocky but much better than being on the edge of the hot pavement. From here we visited the New England Ski Museum, always free, at the Tram. Then we went to Clark's Bears and the bear show was a delight.
