 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
From west of the Crystals I drove up a road (shown on Gaia) to a dead end at 2200 feet. It’s an unnamed road off Roaring Brook road that looks like a driveway to a camp. These roads are all decent for the most part. I don’t know if I’d take a sedan, but any small SUV should be fine. |

This route is not the shortest but it does save a lot of elevation. I wasn’t sure at first how to approach this ridge, but I headed straight contouring south around 2250’ on a slash-filled wide grassy skid path. It then turned east and contoured along 2400’ for a while, as the ridge above was thick young regrowth. As I reached the mature woods, I went higher on the crest of the ridge to avoid the hobblebush. There were patches of it up here, but not too bad. It was an enjoyable ridge walk the rest of the way, and a big bull moose was hanging around. I followed his paths which were helpful through the hobblebush. On the way back I tried staying on the ridge to get a view east but ended up in the nasty young saplings, should’ve dropped down just to the SW on the 2400’ contour how I came up. About 3.2 miles total and only 500’ of gain for this challenging but satisfying route. |
