Trails: Edmands Path, Eisenhower Loop, Crawford Path
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Monday, August 18, 2025
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Mt. Clinton Road unexpectedly closed for road work just south of the Edmands Path parking area, so some of our group coming from the Highland Center had to drive up Rt 302 to Cog Railway Base Road. By the time we left at 4pm, "Road Closed" sign had been taken down. Parking at trailhead for about 12 cars (no fee). No problem finding a spot at 745 am. Some cars were parked on Mt. Clinton road by the time we came down.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Water levels super low. Only real water was at Abenaki Brook (at start of trail--just walk right across). Other streams closer to the summit were dry.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Just one little blowdown at about .5 miles - easy to hop over. Otherwise trail in amazing shape. Thank you J. Raynor Edmands!
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: A great trail for dogs...although they need to be on a leash once in the alpine zone. Saw one adorable puppy at the summit - owners carried him up in a puppy pack.
Bugs
Bugs: None
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Lost some stress and found was a gorgeous, smoke-free (at last) 360 degree view of the Whites.

Comments
Comments: Near-perfect day to hike the Southern Presis. Lots of hikers on the Crawford Path - several family groups doing hut-to-hut trips. Edmands Path definitely the less-traveled way up to Eisenhower. Kudos to the trail steward -- best-maintained trail I've experienced all year!
