 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Any flowing water I saw was just a trickle. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
East Royce Trail is suffering from extensive erosion that is compromising rock steps and water bars. The water bars I did see were also full of debris. Royce Trail has some brushy spots between the connector and West Royce summit. |

I hadn't done this route to the Royces for a while so it was a good refresher. East Royce Trail is pretty steep right from the parking lot so no warm up here. West Royce no longer has any extensive vistas but some good ledge views can be had if you poke around a bit. The short path to the true summit and fire tower footings is growing in but still easy to follow.
East Royce was as I remembered but I'm still curious why the maintained trail ends where it does. I guess just because of the view there. The herd path out to the true summit, N ledges, and USFS radio repeater is mostly obvious except for close to the ledges where it's a bit overgrown and you have to push through. Those ledges are nicer than where the maintained trail ends! |
