A FINE day was had on the Northwest bump of "Pemigewasset Peak." Congrats to Andrea for finishing the hiking portion of her TW72. We found good trail conditions throughout. In the morning, we noticed two non hikers entering the woods. Come to find out these pair were with an outing group from Yale. They had ten hikers overdue by almost 36 hours at this point with no contact. Sounds like they bit off more than they could chew on a 2 night backpack. You can get an ivy league education but you cant be taught common sense... *like a map* the issue resolved itself, though. My seventh or so ascent of Arrow Slide, because of the extended dry conditions, I got to utilize a newer, more easterly line, thats typically weeping water. Moderate pucker factor but exciting none the less. We found better than expected conditions to Northwest. There are plenty of on-again-off-again moose and herd paths that make this one far faster than my trip a few years ago. Everything is slowly losing any sort of wilderness or challenge. Descent via cedar brook slide. Good times! |
