Comments: Did a 3 night back hike in and around the Pemi Wilderness area.

Arrived at the Sawyer River rd/Rt 302 parking area at Noon on 8/26 and found it full except for a small spot where I squeezed my vehicle in. Hiked up Sawyer River rd to the SR trail seeing a number of folks returning from their Carrigan peak hike. Hiked up through Carrigan Notch and set up camp for two nights in the Stillwater area.

Day 2 did a day hike up to Thoreau Falls and back down the Shoal Pond trl. Noticed that the bear damage trail sign at the junction of Shoal Pond and Wilderness trills was replaced.

Day 3 broke down camp and headed west to Cedar Brook trail. While on the Wilderness trail we ran into several interesting hikers. One gent was doing contract work for the USFS where he was going to bushwhack up Crystal Brook to a GPS coordinate where he survey trees within a 24 foot diameter. The other gent was a NH resident that was doing a 18 mile round day hike to check out the Stillwater area. He was a wealth of knowledge on the history of the lumber operations back in its day. I was surprised to learn it went to a time just after World War II. Hike down the Hancock Notch trl which was rugged at times though thankfully it was dry. Farther down the trail where several drainages come together that power of water on the landscape was amazing.

Set camp up along the Sawyer River for our last night and relaxed in the river bed in our small foldable chairs eating dinner enjoying the solitude of the area.
