Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parked in the Macomber parking lot that asks for a $10 donation however we did not pay it. It was empty at 9:30am. The small roadside lot near the Crawford Depot had very few spots remaining. By 1:30 Macomber parking lot still had spaces and there were still many cars were parked along the side of the road. Restrooms at Depot were open as of 8:00 AM.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: he two main crossings were very easy in current dry conditions. Probably not so easy under other conditions.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: We removed one step over by removing the small downed tree. There is another stepover after the 2nd crossing of Crawford Brook that could easily be removed with a small saw. Otherwise, the trail is easy to follow and in great condition. Many nice stone steps. Good signage (with mileages!).
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: here is a steep, rough rocky stretch and a couple scrambles that might be difficult for some dogs.
Bugs
Bugs: None.

Comments
Comments: This is a great hike, with a wonderful view at the Avalon summit. It's fairly short, but with a few steep sections and a little scrambling, so you get to earn the view. Great views of Mt. Washington, other Presidentials, and peaks on both sides of Crawford Notch.

A few hints of fall foliage colors popping up. Beautiful late summer day with temperatures in the 70s.
