Comments: “These mountains ain’t gonna hike themselves” is a line I constantly repeat to my children. After waking up for the 7th straight day feverish and hacking up my lungs with pneumonia I had to convince myself that hiking wasn’t a horrible idea, packed up the antibiotics and Tylenol, un-retired my geriatric canine companion for the day, and hit the trail. Odd to hike Garfield without a single wet spot/mud pit. It is real dusty out there! Some yellow leaves and a few falling at low elevations. Shared the trail with about twenty friendly hikers, half of which were Holderness School students. Summit views were amazing as usual, and the wind was howling. Fin did awesome, but is definitely a hot mess this morning. She received bountiful French fries post-hike:) We also scrapped what I thought was a great trail name for James, because my wife quickly reminded me last week that there’s tens of millions of celebrity-worshipping NPC’s who already use the name “Swifty”. Back to the drawing board! Fever spiked to 101 by the time we got home last night. Yesterday’s takeaway-you probably shouldn’t hike when you have pneumonia. Zero regrets! 37/48 for James.
