Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The crossing of Avalanche Brook on the Glen Boulder Trail is easy as the water levels are low. The water crossings on the Tuckerman Ravine Trail are on bridges.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails in good condition. The evergreen boughs have been trimmed back on the upper portion of the Glen Boulder Trail since the last time I used the path. There is some evergreen branches extending into the Davis Path in scrub patches. Not a big problem. A temporary trail sign for the Tuckerman Crossover Trail has been hung at the intersection with the Davis Path. It was missing in July.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Fine for dogs. Some may need assistance on the ledges below Glen Boulder.
Bugs
Bugs: Saw flying grasshoppers.

Comments
Comments: The trail surfaces were all dry. The paths I hiked today are much easier footing than the Castle Trail that I hiked on Friday. The ledges are more manageable and there was no sea of rock to clamber over like there is on the Castle Trail.
When ascending the Glen Boulder Trail, be sure to avoid taking the ski trail that looks like the more natural way to go as it is a well-worn trail that is directly aligned with the ascent route. The Glen Boulder Trail ascends steeply and bears slightly right at this junction. The signs for the trails are high up on a tree so it may be missed if one is concentrating on footing.
Some of the yellow blazes on the Lion Head Trail are faded although many are bright. There are also many cairns that can be followed. In cloudy conditions the upper section of the Lion Head Trail may require care to follow.
Not that many hikers on the trails. Not too many tourists at the summit.
The leaves are starting to change colors in the Pinkham Notch area. Not peak foliage yet.
