Dube Brook Mountain (Monument 496 and 497), Monument 493 (Greeley Brook Peak)
This was the 3rd and 4th peak of the day, after Trestle Brook Mtn and Jobbers Brook North Peak. I parked at the HOL on Perley Road, 0.2 miles from the border swath. I went up in a section of hardwoods to Dube Brook Mtn, and found the register damp and moldy, and the pencil wet and unusable. I replaced the pencil and wet bag, signed in the best I could and did an OAB to Greeley Brook Peak on the swath. I was able to avoid the large areas of mud and standing water, but this would be swamp-mageddon in spring. The actual path is scenic and very easy to traverse, not rocky and rough terrain like it is further north. I startled 2 moose simultaneously, one on the US side, the other on the Canadian side; both were in the woods and very close to the swath, but each one ran off in the opposite direction before I even realized they were there. |
