Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Water levels still low even after the recent rain. Easy to cross on rocks.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: One tree trunk across the Liberty Spring Trail just uphill from the junction with the Flume Slide Trail. About 1.5' diameter. Not hard to straddle over. The Liberty Spring Trail has worn down over the years exposing rocks for a good portion of the ascent up to the ridge. Being the AT, this trail receives a lot of foot traffic.

Dog-Related Notes: Fine for dogs.
Bugs
Bugs: None

Comments
Comments: No significant changes since last year. The Liberty Spring Trail steepens after the last brook crossing with a very rocky surface.
There is one slightly tricky ledge on the Franconia Ridge Trail on the southside just below the summit. There is an alternative route bypassing the Mt Liberty summit that avoids this ledge section. No need to use the by-pass today as the rock surfaces were mostly dry. Otherwise, the Franconia Ridge Trail has reasonably good footing.
When descending Mt Liberty be sure to take the appropriate path to reach the Liberty Spring Trail. I had to redirect one couple who started to head toward Mt Flume when they intended to descend toward the Liberty Spring Trail.
There are lots of bear notice signs around the Liberty Spring tentsite.
I received multiple reports from other hikers that the Flume Slide Trail was wet and challenging. They recommended not descending via that trail. One 7 year old hiked up the Flume Slide Trail with his family.
Nice to converse with Alpine Bee (Dennis) from Lisbon NH and a trio of hikers from No Reading MA.
Also, chatted with a couple from Portland ME & Pittsburgh PA. Met two pair of hikers from the UK.
Ran into a family from Londonderry NH down low on Liberty Spring Trail who were looking for The Flume. They had mistakenly parked at the Whitehouse trailhead rather than at The Flume. They safely returned to the parking area and will visit The Flume on another day.
Lots of colorful leaves. The drive over on the Kancamagus Highway featured the autumnal foliage.
